  14. In the next weeks when the new ZyXEL "Elite 2864" and "Supreme 2864"
  15. modems will become available on the market, there we will receive also many
  16. new different firmware data files for the flash eproms.
  17.  
  18. So it is now "high noon" to manage the names of these new files before they
  19. will be released and nobody will know which is thr right one for his/her
  20. modem ...

  22. In the Elite 2864I manual Jesse Ou-Yang (the author of the manual) and
  23. probably Calvin Ma (the chief developer of the ISDN-part) named the
  24. firmware files as follows:

  27. E2864IE.001   "E2864" = Elite, "I" = ISDN, "E" = EuroISDN (DSS1) D-channel
  28. E2864IG.001    -"-             -"-         "G" = German   (1TR6) D-channel
  29. E2864IA.001    -"-             -"-     "A" = American D-channel, S/T interf.
  30. E2864IU.001    -"-             -"-     "U" = American D-channel, U interface
  31.  
  32. E2864.001     "E2864" = Elite 2864 (analog only, without ISDN !)
  33.  
  34. The extension of these firmware data files reflects the release version.
  35. v1.00 will become the first officially released version. All versions
  36. of v0.0x are betatest firmware codes !

  39. There will be also an "S2864" (for "Supreme 2864") and "B2864" (for the
  40. internal PC-card ..) in the future
  41.

  43. Because the length of the firmware data files is about 500 KByte it
  44. would be very useful for distribution within ZyXELnet Fileecho "ZYXFIRM"
  45. if these files will be compressed by a popular packer software, eg. PKZIP.
  46. Then the redundancy of these files will become more inefficient, so I
  47. suggest to rename the compressed files as follows:

  68.  the number left of the period is the major release number, the "Z" of
  69.  the extionsion is for "compressed by PKZIP v2.04g", and right of that
  70.  "packer's fingerprint" is the minor release number !

  72.  The "packer's fingerprint" is used in the same manner as it is used in
  73.  compressed nodelists for FidoNet or ZyXELnet:

  81. There will be also release notes for these firmware date files which
  82. should be named in a similiar way: "E2864I_1.RLN", or "S2864__1.RLN"
  83. The quick reference guides will be named as "E2864_QR.DOC" or "S2864IQR.PS"
